At Penn Mutual and 1847Financial, financial professionals aren’t just a distribution force—they’re the customers the company is built to serve. Their perspectives influence everything from product development to field support. That’s the purpose of the National Advisory Council (NAC): to provide a meaningful connection between financial professionals and company leadership, ensuring their insights are heard and thoughtfully considered.
Built by Financial Professionals, for Financial Professionals
Led by John C. Watson III, CLU, ChFC, AEP, RFC, the current council president, the NAC is a group of financial professionals who meet regularly with Penn Mutual and 1847Financial leaders through a structure of multiple committees. Their goal: to offer real-world insight into how to enhance products, services, and the overall experience.
During a recent 1847Financial Immersion training session for financial professionals who recently joined, John reflected on his own journey. “I started where you are—46 years ago,” he shared. Over the years, he built a successful practice, evolving from working with resident physicians to managing financial strategies for a corporation with 56 companies. His story highlights the unpredictable and rewarding nature of the profession. “You never know where you’ll end up, but having a strong company behind you makes all the difference.”
A Company That Listens
The NAC isn’t just a discussion group—it helps drive change.

The NAC advocates for financial professionals and their clients while strengthening timely, relevant communication between the company and the field.
Your Voice Matters—Use It
From day one, every financial professional at 1847Financial is part of the NAC. “Every one of you is a member,” John emphasizes. With an Executive Committee and specialized committees in areas like underwriting, marketing, and technology, the NAC ensures that financial professionals’ perspectives are represented at the highest levels.
John encourages engagement: “If you don’t have a seat at the table, you’re on the menu. Your feedback helps drive business improvements. The more involved you are, the stronger we become—together.”
