Building Practices with Purpose

We sat down with Jason Bingham to learn more about his 21-year journey in the financial services industry and his recent move to 1847Financial. Jason shared how personal experiences shaped his career path, why he is passionate about supporting financial professionals, and what makes 1847Financial a strong place to build a practice.

How long have you been in the financial services industry?
I started in 2005, so this marks my 21st year in the business.

What led you to join the financial services industry?
My degree was in business management, and I was looking for a career in that field. In the area where I lived in North Carolina, most opportunities were in furniture factories, and you had to work on the plant floor before moving into management. While I was exploring options, a financial professional at my church asked what I planned to do after graduation. He encouraged me to interview with Thrivent, my previous company, and I saw it as a way to manage a business while also providing real value to others. Two and a half years later, my brother passed away, and I handled his death claim. That experience showed me firsthand the importance of what we do for families, and it confirmed my decision to stay in the profession.

What roles have you held throughout your career?
I began as a financial advisor, then became a wealth manager within a year. At age 25, I moved into leadership and have spent the last 19 years recruiting and launching advisors, whether they are brand new to the industry or to our firm. My role has been to help them transition, get established, and build successful practices.

How long have you been with 1847Financial?
I joined about four months ago, in May.

Why should a financial professional consider joining 1847Financial?
First and foremost, the local and regional support is exceptional. You are not just getting my support, but also a dedicated marketing specialist, our managing principal, and easy access to corporate resources. You have the autonomy to run your practice the way you want, while having both proprietary and non-proprietary products available. This allows you to meet your fiduciary responsibility and offer clients the best solutions for their needs.

Once someone joins, how do you support them in growing their business?
I start by understanding their two- to five-year vision for their practice. Some want to remain solo practitioners, while others want to build a team. From there, I help them map out the steps to achieve that goal. We have weekly one-on-one meetings, quarterly reviews, and annual business planning sessions. I see myself as their business consultant, helping them stay accountable and offering guidance on the business side so they can focus on serving clients.

What does your ideal recruit look like?
My ideal recruit has a solid foundation, which could be in the industry or in life experience. They may not have direct financial services experience but might have strong community relationships or strategic alliances. Key characteristics include an entrepreneurial mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to turn personal conversations into professional ones when appropriate. Financial stability is also important so they can focus on building their business without immediate financial pressure.

What is your biggest career success?
On a personal level, one of my biggest successes came early in my career. After my brother passed away, a small policy he had in place will ultimately provide my niece with over three quarters of a million dollars. Seeing the long-term impact of that planning over the past 20 years has been powerful. Professionally, I take pride in the many individuals I have brought into the industry who are still thriving today, some ranking among the top in Fortune 500 companies.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Travel is a big passion of mine. I love scuba diving, whether it is searching for fossils or exploring reefs. I enjoy experiencing other cultures by staying where the locals stay rather than only visiting resorts. For me, it is about understanding different ways of life and immersing myself in those experiences. Most of all, I value spending time with my family while exploring the world.
