Building a Legacy: Bret Andrus on the Power of Relationships
For financial professionals, longevity in the industry isn’t just about career success—it’s about impact. Few people embody this better than Bret Andrus, who has dedicated more than four decades to helping clients reach their financial goals.
Bret entered the financial services industry in 1980, and since joining Penn Mutual and 1847Financial – Utah/Arizona in 2000, he has built a practice centered on trust, strategy, and long-term client relationships. As a financial coach and strategist, he works to help clients discover solutions to their financial concerns, goals, and dreams. He takes pride in guiding them through the Leap Model® to make informed financial decisions.
Unlocking the Power of the 9 Diamonds
As Penn Mutual’s Financial Professional Value Commitment (9 Diamonds) reaches its 30th anniversary in 2025, Bret reflects on its impact on his career. While he knew he had joined a strong company, he didn’t fully grasp the depth of the Value Commitment at first. But once he tapped into its resources—ranging from advanced sales support to practice management coaching—it became a game-changer, helping him elevate his business and better serve his clients.
Video Clip: Bret discusses how he initially didn’t focus on the FP Value Commitment but later realized its value when he qualified for STAR, Penn Mutual’s elite recognition program. (50 sec.)
Bret emphasizes that his role goes beyond financial planning—it's about education and empowerment. He helps clients navigate the three economic phases of life—accumulation, distribution, and preservation—planning so they can spend, protect, and pass on their wealth effectively.

A Career Built on Trust and Excellence
Bret’s extensive financial planning experience is backed by his Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses, his degree in Business Finance from the University of Utah, and his active membership in the Utah Chapter of Financial Services Professionals. His commitment to excellence is reflected in his multiple STAR Program qualifications and three-time recognition as Cambridge Financial Advisers “Associate of the Year.”
His advice to new financial professionals is simple:

Life Beyond Business
Bret and his wife, Joyce, live in Utah, where they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Family is their number one priority, and Joyce is known for planning epic theme-based family parties, complete with costumes that Bret proudly wears. Outside of work, Bret enjoys playing golf, drawing, putting puzzles together with Joyce, and staying actively engaged in their church.
For Bret, success isn’t measured just in business—it’s in the lives he’s impacted, the relationships he’s built, and the legacy he’s leaving behind.
