Building Success Together

Since entering the financial services industry in 2007, Brandon Preece has dedicated himself to helping financial professionals grow and succeed. As Business Development Director at 1847Financial Utah and Arizona Headquarters, he shares his journey, insights, and what makes the firm a standout choice for financial professionals seeking support and growth opportunities.

How long have you been in financial services?
I started my career in 2007, during a financial crisis, which was an interesting time to join the industry!

What made you choose financial services?
I’ve always been fascinated by the stock market and finance. My career began at Fidelity Investments, where I learned a lot, but I wanted to build my own practice and connect directly with clients. I spent time at MassMutual and eventually moved into leadership roles. Eight years ago, I joined Penn Mutual, and I’ve loved every moment.

What makes your firm stand out?
We offer comprehensive solutions for both protection and investments. Many firms focus heavily on one side—like whole life insurance or wealth management—but we provide a balanced approach. Additionally, our platform for wealth management is robust and diverse, making us truly stand out.

How do you partner with financial professionals?
I focus on meeting financial professionals where they are. Some need hands-on training in the financial planning process, while others need support with marketing. By tailoring my approach, I ensure each professional gets what they need to thrive.

Why should someone join your firm?
It’s the culture. Even though we’re all independent, there’s a strong sense of camaraderie. Our financial professionals are always willing to share insights and support one another. It’s a culture of collaboration, not competition.

Can you give an example of helping a financial professional grow?
I’ve helped financial professionals organize seminars and develop marketing initiatives tailored to their goals. Whether it’s setting up events or creating a social media strategy, I make sure they have the resources and support to succeed.

How do you support financial professionals day-to-day?
I take things off their plate—whether it’s dealing with underwriting or navigating compliance. They know they can rely on me to handle the heavy lifting so they can focus on their clients.

Describe your ideal recruit.
Someone who values both protection and wealth management. Our firm thrives with balanced professionals who understand the importance of helping clients protect what they’ve built while growing their wealth.

How does your firm stay ahead of the curve?
Technology is key. Our underwriting platform is one of the fastest and easiest I’ve seen. On the wealth side, digital tools like e-signatures make processes seamless for both advisors and clients.

What mistakes do financial professionals make when joining a new firm?
Underestimating the transition. Many rely on their contacts and initial production but don’t develop a long-term marketing plan. Having a clear strategy from the start is crucial to sustaining growth.

What’s been your biggest career success?
Agent referrals. Building strong relationships and being referable has been the cornerstone of my success. Those connections are invaluable.

Have you seen financial products help clients?
Absolutely. I’ve seen disability insurance keep families afloat and life insurance provide financial security after a loss. On the positive side, helping families save for college or accumulate wealth has been incredibly rewarding.

Describe your leadership style.
I’m hands-on when needed but avoid micromanaging. My goal is to empower professionals to take ownership of their practice while knowing they have my full support.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love spending time with my family here in Utah. We spend a lot of time at the ski resorts, which has been a lot of fun. I have four young kids, ages 3 to 8, and it’s been incredibly rewarding the past few winters to head out on Saturdays and teach them how to snowboard.
