A Purpose-Driven Approach to Financial Planning

For many Financial Professionals, the journey into this industry begins with ambition. For Gigi Thakor, it began with clarity of purpose.

As a sophomore in college, Gigi lost her father, a business owner, unexpectedly at only 51 years old. Gigi and her mother discovered something devastating: the life insurance policy had lapsed due to missed payments. As the only child of immigrant parents, the responsibility quickly became very real for her.

“I learned what not to do,” she says. “Rather than my clients and their families learning the hard way, I want them to benefit from the lessons I already lived.”

While this personal experience shaped her understanding of the importance of financial preparedness, it also inspired her to build a practice centered on education, empowerment, and proactive planning. Today, Gigi is known not for what she endured, but for what she does every day to help individuals, families, and business owners build stronger financial futures.

Building a Practice Focused on Education and Empowerment

Gigi’s work centers on closing the financial literacy gap for the communities she serves. Rather than simply advising clients, she focuses on helping them truly understand their financial decisions.

Education is the foundation of her practice. She hosts financial seminars, leads women’s financial organizations, and even created a coaching program for those looking to improve budgeting, eliminate debt, or build healthier money habits. Although this program isn’t her primary revenue driver, she continues to offer it because it aligns with her mission: helping people create lasting change.

She also invests heavily in her own development, continuously expanding her knowledge. She leverages technology, such as AI-driven tools, to improve both the client’s experience and her own efficiency. Curiosity is part of who she is. In fact, she shares that the base of her name, Jigisha, literally means curiosity.

Serving Women and Entrepreneurs

Gigi has built her practice around the unique needs of two core groups: Women and Business Owners.

Women often navigate distinct financial realities, including different lifetime earning patterns, longer life expectancy, and increased likelihood of managing finances later in life.

While her process remains consistent, the planning assumptions are different. Gigi helps women prepare for long-term security, aiming to ensure they can live comfortably through their 80s and 90s. She encourages both spouses to take part in financial conversations.

“If something happens, everyone needs to understand what’s going on,” she explains. “Financial literacy is empowerment.”

Entrepreneurs face a unique set of challenges. Gigi helps business owners create the financial infrastructure they often lack, including retirement strategies, Tax-efficient planning, Insurance protection, and Long-term business continuity plans. She serves as an advisor, educator, strategic partner, and above all, acts as a "Financial Therapist."

A Human-Centered Planning Experience

What sets Gigi’s practice apart is her human-first philosophy. She sees clients not as account numbers but as individuals with goals, families, and stories.

Her background in real estate, particularly during the turbulence of the 2008 housing crisis, gave her a firsthand view of how easily people can be misinformed, overwhelmed, or misled. That experience shapes her calm, grounded guidance today, ensuring clients can make informed decisions without pressure or confusion.

Integrating Mindfulness Into Her Work

Gigi brings a unique blend of financial experience and personal discipline to her practice. As a yoga and meditation practitioner and instructor since 2003, she uses mindfulness to stay centered in a fast-paced, high-stakes financial industry.

Rather than reacting to stress, she takes a breath. She helps clients slow down, think clearly, and make thoughtful, long-term decisions that will have a positive impact now & 20-30 years from now.

Advocating for Representation and Opportunity

Gigi is passionate about increasing representation within financial services. As a woman and a minority in the industry, she understands the significance of her presence. She sees enormous opportunity for women and minorities to enter this field and serve clients who want guidance from advisors with shared experiences and perspectives.

“The first five years are hard,” she often tells new professionals. “But if you stay focused on your purpose, the results compound.”

Living Her Why

One of Gigi’s core messages is simple. Money is a tool, not the purpose. Her planning approach helps clients to experience life fully, support causes they care about, protect the people they love, and invest with purpose. Her role isn’t just to help clients grow wealth; it’s to help them use it meaningfully.

Whether she’s leading a women’s networking group, hosting a vision board workshop, offering one-on-one planning sessions, or guiding business owners through major decisions, everything Gigi does ties back to her mission: helping people build secure, empowered, and well-planned financial lives.

Her story may have begun with loss, but her practice is defined by leadership, education, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of others.
